I have a new job.

No, I am not now working 3 jobs. I don't think there are enough hours in the day for that. I have quit the pier/bouncy castle job, and got a new one.

There are several reasons for this, and in order to make them clear, I shall list them(in no particular order) -

  1. The job, being outdoors, is weather dependable, meaning that if it rains, I don't get paid. For example, my training was delayed by 5 days because of rain, and yesterday we had to finish 2 hours early because of rain, meaning 2 hours less pay. Not good for the holiday fund.
  2. The weather presents other problems, in that if its hot I either go home (or even worse, go to work in the pub) very, very sweaty and covered in sun lotion/sunburn. Most definitely not a good look for the pub. If its cold, as it was yesterday, I still have to be outside, on a blustery pier, freezing my arse off, being blown about to buggery (again, not a good look for the pub) and standing in perpetual drizzle, as drizzle doesn't quite qualify as rain so we have to work through it.
  3. I have a cold. Which I swear was brought on by the aforementioned wind and drizzle.
  4. If I work on the pier adn in the pub on the same day I only have an hour in between shifts, leaving nowhere near enough time to get home and back to Llandudno again, so I have to have 2 packed lunch-style meals (the horror!) a day, which is neither beneficial for my diet, as my packed lucnches usually consist of crisps and chocolate biscuits by their very nature, or for my growly, grumbly tummy.
  5. They're not giving me enough hours (hours which they said I would definitely get when I started).
  6. I'm sure I can think of more, but I really don't want to moan ...

Yes, I know these are all things I should have considered beforehand, but I didn't, so tough on me.

So my new job is working here -

At the fabulous Bodelwyddan Castle, as a room steward. Basically, a sort of tour guide. Some people may find this kind of job boring, but I am very excited (history! Yay!), and best of all, its indoors! The poor delicate flower that I am, I find this particular aspect very appealing. I start on Friday and I can't wait.

Unfortunately, getting a new job means you have to quite your old one, which I did before over the phone. It went suprisingly well, but nonetheless, I was still shit-scared beforehand. I also have to honour the shift I was down to work tomorrow as a sort of notice, which is fair enough, but I hope they won't be shitty with me.

In other dramatic news, two buyers of some old CDs I had for sale on ebay still haven't paid me or replied to any emails., over a week after the end of the auctions. I am very annoyed, as not only is this very rude, but I am missing out on about £20, plus listing-fees, and not only THAT, but one of the CDs is a particularly old and shit one and when I relist it there is no way I will get the same amount of money for it. Non-paying ebayers are BAD :(

    1. You had TRAINING for the bouncy castle?

    2. Did the fact that you had previous castle experience help you get a job in Bodelwyddan?

    3. I hope for your own sake that they don't ask you to work in the tea-rooms, or on the adventure playground! Tour guide-wise it looks great!

    4. Can't remember if you were going back to uni again in Oct, but if you're not, have you got plans to look for more permanant jobs?

Yeah, the castle looks very "Most Haunted" doesn't it? Have fun! ;D

Can't believe I forgot to say that - it HAS been on Most Haunted! And I can confirm I am very scared - in an excited way.

Yes I am going back to uni in October. Thank bloody God. I can't be doing with this paid employment lark for much longer.

You wait until next year Laura (assuming it's not a 4 year course, or you'll do a masters/PHD) :(

How incredibly rude of the Ebayers! Is there some way we can have them shot?

That looks like a proper posh workind establishment - do you have to wear a uniform and have your hair done in the obligatory "Tour Guide Ponytail" fashion?

ms.mac - I have actually posed that question to ebay, and unfortunately, apparantly not.

richard - OMG you're still alive! and no i don't. it shall be in its usual free-flowing and glorious state, and 'black trousers and a smart blouse' is the uniform i'm told to wear, so not too bad.

BTW, since I got my Mac, your site is all different-looking and not pink any more. Did you change it? Or is it no longer Marie-compatible with my new kit?

  • At 7:48 pm, Blogger Laura said…

nope - its still the same! possibly just not compatible with the expensive new mac!

Was in fact the cheapest computer available to humanity - which pretty much explains that.
